Beauty and the Beast or Panna a netvor is a Czechoslovak horror fairy tale film, directed by Slovak film director Juraj Herz in 1978. The film is a re-telling of the classic tale Beauty and the Beast. The picture is notable for its pervasive atmosphere of dread and the innovative decision to depict the beast as a bird-like creature.

For his direction, Herz received the Medalla Sitges en Oro de Ley at the Sitges Film Festival in 1979.

Julie, the youngest daughter of a bankrupt merchant, sacrifices her life in order to save her father. She goes to an enchanted castle in the woods and meets Netvor, a bird-like monster. As Netvor begins to fall in love with Julie, he must suppress his beastly urge to kill her.
