Three working-class men from the countryside who decide to spend an unforgettable night in the heart of Prague. Eager to experience the sophistication of city life, they take etiquette lessons, don suits, and head out in search of glamour and romance. But as they mingle with high society and try to charm elegant women, their naive enthusiasm collides with the reality of urban pretenses, leading to a series of humorous misunderstandings, culture clashes, and gentle satire on social ambition.
The film features some of the most iconic Czech actors of the time, including Jiří Sovák, Vlastimil Brodský, and Jan Libíček. Their chemistry and comedic timing are a major part of the film’s enduring appeal.
Director Zdeněk Podskalský brought a theatrical flair to the film, using elegant costumes, choreographed scenes, and stylized settings to contrast the characters’ working-class backgrounds with the glitter of urban nightlife.
While the film is a lighthearted comedy, it cleverly satirizes the gap between working-class life and the pretensions of high society in 1960s Czechoslovakia. It reflects the desire of ordinary people to escape their everyday routine and briefly taste a more glamorous world—only to realize that appearances can be deceiving.
